CISM Disaster Class

 

CISM When Disaster Strikes: Linking Emergency Management with Stress Management is designed as a primer course for fire, police, emergency medical services, emergency managers, doctors, nurses, mental health professionals, clinicians, practitioners, current and future CISM Team members, chief executive officers of municipalities and governmental agencies, as well as CEOs of business and industry.

CISM Disaster Class Utilizing concepts of Emergency Management and Critical Incident Stress Management, Participants will engage in several interactive exercises dealing with the various phases of Disaster Management. the role of CISM Teams deployed to disaster areas along with individuals and organizations who have preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation functions associated with disasters will be discussed.

Course taught by Douglas J. Mitchell, MPA, Lt. (Ret.) FDNY - retired as a Lieutenant from the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) after 28 years of service in some of the most fire prone sections of the city. He has taught Fire Science, Fire Prevention, and Arson Investigation Courses within the FDNY. As an adjunct professor for John Jay College of Criminal Justice, he has taught at the United Stated Military Academy at West Point. He is a member of the ICISF’s faculty, serves as representative to the United Nations for ICISF, and developed and taught both the “CISM: When Disaster Strikes: Linking Emergency Management with Disaster Management” and “Domestic Terrorism and Weapons of Mass Destruction: A CISM Perspective” Course for emergency services, government, and private industry. He is the Director of Emergency Management for the Town and Village in which he resides in New York. Mr. Mitchell serves as the “On-Scene Disaster Coordinator” for the ICISF and has provided consultation, advise, interventions, and training during and after major disasters. Mr. Mitchell has operated a consulting firm known as Emergency Management Consultants for the past several years.
